FAQs For Those Visiting Royal Melbourne Hospital

Are you or a loved one planning a trip to the Royal Melbourne Hospital? Medical visits for any reason can be a difficult, stressful experience, which is why Q Squared Serviced Apartments provide comfortable accommodation that is only a short distance from the hospital. So, to help you plan out your stay, we’ve put together a quick guide to what you can expect from your time at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Does Royal Melbourne Hospital Have WIFI?

Those who are planning for an extended stay at the hospital may want to bring their tablet or laptop with them to pass the time. Thankfully, the Royal Melbourne Hospital does indeed provide free WIFI to guests and patrons. Simply search for the network “MH-Guest” and follow the sign-in process.

How Much Is Parking at Royal Melbourne Hospital?

Those who will be spending more than a few days at the hospital may need to park in the area if other forms of transport are not available. Because of this, there will be different parking fees dependant on your needs. Any parking under 30 minutes is free, with the cost moving to $10 for an hour and an extra $3-$4 for every additional hour. Thankfully, for those that require a day in the hospital, the daily maximum fee is $35, so you can feel safe knowing that you’re not going to be faced with a ridiculous bill at the end of your visit.

Concession rates are also available for those that are eligible. This applies to people in special circumstances that involve multiple visits to the hospital in a day, pensioners/healthcare card holders, those that will be spending 3+ days in the hospital and those that make 3 or more visits within a week.

What Public Transport Options Are Available?

Thanks to the central location of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, there is a number of public transport options available to guests and patients:

Trams

  • The 19 tram from the city to North Coburg takes you along Royal Parade, allowing you to get off at either Melbourne Private Hospital or Grattan Street.
  • The 58 tram from Toorak to West Coburg will also allow you to get off at Grattan Street.
  • The 59 tram from the city to Airport West also passes along Grattan Street.

Busses

The 401 and 402 bus services run past the hospital. These are a perfect option for those coming from either North or East Melbourne. For those that are travelling long distances, the 401 bus can be taken from North Melbourne station which, in turn, can be reached via the Flemington Racecourse, Williamstown, Sunbury, Craigieburn, Upfield, and Werribee lines.

Is Smoking Permitted on The Royal Melbourne Grounds?

As with the vast majority of hospitals and medical establishments in Australia, smoking is not permitted anywhere on the grounds. This ban is in effect for both cigarettes and e-cigarettes, so vaping is also prohibited.
